The congress was attended by representatives from central agencies, former Politburo members, former Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Foreign Affairs, leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and nearly 200 Party members from 38 Party cells, representing more than 13,000 party members.

The 28th Party Congress of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the 2020-2025 term was held on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Foreign Affairs sector (August 28, 1945 - August 28, 2020). This is a particularly important political activity of the diplomatic sector, not only reviewing the leadership, directing the results of the implementation of political tasks and Party building tasks for the 2015-2020 term, and defining orientation, targets, tasks and solutions for the next term, but it is also an opportunity to look back on the 75-year journey of implementing the Party's foreign policy, and to summarize and evaluate the contributions of foreign affairs work after nearly 35 years of innovation.

At the meeting, the delegates enthusiastically discussed and contributed to the Political Report, report on the leadership of the executive board of the 27th Party Committee; report collecting comments on the draft documents submitted to the 13th National Party Congress and the Draft Political Report of the Party Committee of the Central Agencies Bloc to be submitted to the 13th National Party Congress.

Speaking at the congress, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh acknowledged the achievements and results that the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has achieved in the 2015-2020 term; and said the successes and experiences in the past term are the basis for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to continue promoting and making important contributions to the overall achievements of the country's diplomacy.

He stressed that in the next term, in the context of complicated and unpredictable changes in the world and region, Vietnam is in a period of extensive and comprehensive integration, the task set for the diplomatic sector is heavier, in which, the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is responsible for overseas party work. Therefore, the congress needs to concentrate on finding solutions to improve leadership capacity and fighting strength of grassroots party organizations, quality of cadres and party members; reform the mode of leadership, direction and organization of activities in accordance with the operating conditions at home and abroad.

Mr. Minh said that the foreign political task is bigger, heavier and more difficult, the Party building work must be paid more attention, so the political ideology is more steadfast and unified in will and action, and the organization coherent to lead the whole sector to successfully complete the tasks assigned by the Party and the State to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, making a worthy contribution to the cause of building and defending the nation.

Congratulating the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on achievements over the last term, Mr. Son Minh Thang, member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Party Committee of the Central Agencies Bloc, suggested that the 28th Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should focus on leadership, direction of the good implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress. Particularly, it should focus on strong, comprehensive and profound innovation in both content and working methods, in accordance with specific conditions of the diplomatic sector and overseas party work.

He also emphasized that the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should pay special attention to teaching political ideology, building cadres and party members with strong political bravery; attaching importance to Party building, well protecting internal politics, improving the efficiency of mass mobilization and good mobilization of overseas Vietnamese communities toward the homeland.

At the same time, he also asked to continue to well implement the Resolution of the 12th Party Central Committee's 4th session on party building association with Directive 05-CT/TW by the Politburo, building a transparent and strong Party Committee, contributing to effective implementation of the foreign policy and international integration of the Party and State, and contributing to the cause of construction and defense of the nation of Socialist Vietnam.

After two days of serious and effective work, the congress elected the Executive Committee of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the 2020-2025 term, including 35 members and a delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to attend the 13th Party Congress of the Central Agencies Bloc. Mr. Bui Thanh Son, member of the Party Central Committee, Standing Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was re-elected as the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the 2020-2025 term./.
