On August 12th, the sixth District 2 Party Congress (term 2020-2025) closed in Ho Chi Minh city. The congress elected the new Executive Board with 40 members.
The event was attended by Secretary of the city Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan, former standing member of the PCC Secretariat Le Hong Anh, and former President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee Huynh Dam.
At the congress, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Hung, Chairman of the district People’s Committee (term 2015-2020) was elected as Secretary of the district Party Committee (term 2020-2025). Mr. Bui Van Phuc continued to be elected as Standing Deputy Secretary of the district Party Committee (term 2020-2025).

Reporting at the event, Mr. Bui Van Phuc said that in the 2015-2020 term, the district focused on an economic restructuring program to improve the business climate.
The proportion of economic sectors has shifted towards modernization, increasing the proportion of services and trade and gradually decreasing industry. Specifically, the retail network system was developed strongly. The district created conditions to help businesses access credit capital source and technology to serve production and business, creating high added value.
For overall goal for the 2020-2025 period, Mr. Bui Van Phuc said that the District 2 Party Committee will focus on improving leadership capacity, building a transparent and strong Party Committee and political system which are worth People’s trust, and improving the quality of human resources.
In addition, the district will be built as a regional financial center, a center of hi-tech health care and multi-function sports; contributing to the formation of a creative urban area in the East of the city.
The Party Committee also identified 23 criteria for the 2020-2025 term and 2 key programs on reducing flood and traffic accidents.
Politburo member and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh city Party Committee Nguyen Thien Nhan proposed that District 2 should establish a service development council to shape service and commercial products for itself.
He recognized and hailed the achievements that District 2 made over the past term, while proposing that the district should add indicators on labor productivity to goals, directions and missions of the district in the 2020-2025 term.
For the upcoming missions, he asked District 2 and other units to develop the creative urban area into a nucleus of the city. In addition, the district should update urban planning in order to avoid breaking due to spontaneous investment./.
