Cambodia shows gratitude for Vietnam’s support for COVID-19 prevention

Some websites also published the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ communiqué on Vietnam's financial support to help this country fight COVID-19.

Quoting CPV General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's letter to the Cambodian leader on April 19, Fresh News noted that COVID-19 continues to seriously impact human health and every aspect of socio-economic life in all countries, including Vietnam and Cambodia. “The Vietnamese Party, State and people have been keeping a close watch on the pandemic situation in the neighbouring country and deeply understand the difficulties that Cambodia is facing,” the newspaper said.

The newspaper stressed that Vietnam values the measures that the CPP and the Cambodia Government have undertaken to prevent and control the COVID-19 pandemic in the recent past, and believe that under the CPP’s sound leadership and the firm governance of the Cambodian Government led by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, along with the support and unity of Cambodian people, Cambodia will successfully contain the pandemic in the earliest time.

The leading prestigious newspaper of Cambodia posted the content of CPV General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s thanks to CPP and the Cambodian Government for conducting vaccination against COVID-19 for staff members at Vietnam’s representative missions and Vietnamese students, as well as support for the community of Cambodians of Vietnamese origin in COVID-19 prevention and control.

On the same day, Fresh News formally published the full text of CPP Chairman and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen’s letter of thanks to CPV General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

On behalf of the CPP, the Government and the entire people of Cambodia, Samdech Techo Hun Sen expressed his deep thanks to the Party, Government and people of Vietnam for always paying attention to preserving the friendship, solidarity, and assistance to the Cambodian people in all circumstances.

The Cambodian leader also highly appreciated Vietnam's prompt, responsible and effective measures; contributing to preventing the pandemic globally with support and aid to the international community and Cambodia, in the bilateral and multilateral framework.

A number of Cambodian newspapers, such as Fresh News and Khmer Times, also reported that the Party, Government and people of Vietnam had donated USD300,000 to support Cambodia in COVID-19 prevention.

Regarding the meaning of this support, the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ communiqué dated April 21 emphasized that the Cambodian Government and people highly appreciate the help of the Government and people of Vietnam. This is not only a humanitarian impulse, but also reflects the traditional friendship, strong solidarity and good neighborliness between the two peoples.

Cambodia is currently facing a serious wave of COVID-19 infection. As of April 21, the Cambodian Ministry of Health confirmed a total of 7,747 positive cases of SARS-CoV-2 virus, including 2,794 patients recovered and 54 dead./.
