So said Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Vo Van Hoan in his report to the Government on key socio-economic development issues, during the Government's regular February meeting on March 2.
According to Mr. Hoan, in February, retail trade increased by more than 11% over the same period last year. The export turnover reached USD8 billion, a year-on-year increase of 25%. The index of industrial production increased by 6%.
The service industry is still the industry most heavily affected by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since the beginning of the year, there have been no international visitors to the city, while the travel tourism decreased by 70%.
Regarding the COVID-19 pandemic in Ho Chi Minh City, he said that Ho Chi Minh City had well controlled the pandemic. “It has prevented the spread of the pandemic, with 20 successive days without no new cases, some services allowed to re-open and pupils back at school,” he added.
In terms of key work in March, according to Mr. Hoan, the city continued to implement synchronous measures to implement the theme of 2021 - The year of building an urban Government and improve the investment environment. At the same time, the city will go on implementing measures to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic and always master dealing with complicated pandemic situations.
In March 2021, Ho Chi Minh City continues to research and devise solutions to support businesses and people facing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic; connecting online with foreign investors, helping the city’s economy not be interrupted.
