The information was announced during a press conference held on January 7 by Tien Phong newspaper, the National Traffic Safety Committee, the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, the steering committee on voluntary blood donation and the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.

As of January 6, 16 blood donation locations have been organized, collecting 11,272 units of blood.

Since 2009, the annually-held program has become an event of profound humanitarian significance as it helps deal with blood shortages during the lunar New Year festival.

From 96 units of blood in 2009, each year, the program attracts the participation of over 40 provinces and cities, collecting 45,000-50,000 units of blood each year. In 2020, although the event was not held as scheduled due to COVID-19, the organizing committee collected 46,999 units of blood.

In 2021, the program expects to collect 50,000 units of blood from 80 locations across 43 provinces and cities./.
