(13th Congress) – VND391 trillion will be spent on a project on increasing public passenger transport in combination with controlling the use of private vehicles in traffic in Ho Chi Minh city which has been approved by the city People’s Committee.

As planned, in the first phase from 2020 - 2025, Ho Chi Minh city needs more than VND91.26 trillion and in the second phase from 2026 – 2030, it needs more than VND300.384 trillion from budget, ODA funding and social involvement.
In particular, Ho Chi Minh city determined that the state budget plays a key role in ensuring the sustainable development of the public passenger transport system. It also encourages funding sources to be mobilized from domestic and foreign businesses, individuals, and organizations, as well as capital from relevant approved programs and projects, and other legal sources.
At the same time, the city People's Committee targets to control the use of individual vehicles through the harmonious and scientific implementation of administrative and economic solutions.
The goal of the project is to ensure good service to travel needs and improve the quality of people’s lives, thus gradually reducing traffic jams, traffic accidents, environmental pollution and social costs in the city.
By 2025, public passenger transport in Ho Chi Minh city needs to cover 15% of the urban transport demand and the figure is expected to be increased to 25% by 2030.
To achieve this goal, the city puts forth 27 solutions, including building a bus network, completing metro lines on schedule, deploying public electric motorbikes and bicycles, collecting car fees downtown, and conducting pilot emission testing with motorbikes./.
