(13th Congress) - To gradually resume labour export in the new normal situation, the Ministry of Labour, War-Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) has suggested labour export businesses to continue to carry out COVID-19 preventive measures, striving to send 90,000 labourers abroad in 2021.

Head of the Overseas Labour Management Department under MOLISA Tong Hai Nam said that there are currently 506 enterprises licensed to send workers abroad, and more than 26,000 overseas workers have completed their labor contracts, but are unable to return home due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mr. Tong Hai Nam added that in the short term, the department instructed relevant agencies to actively grasp the situation and coordinate with Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad, partners and employers to ensure the safety and legal rights of employees in case of the COVID-19 pandemic while waiting to return home.
The department has re-signed the agreement on labour cooperation with Thailand; negotiated a labour cooperation agreement with Israel; and implemented labour cooperation agreements signed with the Republic of Korea and Japan. It has also studied to expand labour export to some European markets like Romania and Poland.
In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic spread, seriously affecting economic and social activities around the globe, including sending Vietnamese workers to work abroad under contracts, leading to a reduction of the number of Vietnamese guest workers sent abroad, at 78,641 in 2020./.
