(13th Congress) - General Ngo Xuan Lich, Politburo member and Minister of National Defence, and outgoing Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Lianys Torres Rivera appreciated the role of bilateral defence cooperation which they said had become a pillar in the two countries’ relationship, contributing to firmly protecting national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The statement was made during a farewell reception of the Vietnamese leader for the Cuban Ambassador.
During the meeting, the Defence Minister congratulated the Cuban Ambassador on an excellent working term in Vietnam which he said contributed to increasing the relationship between the two countries. He expressed his belief that, in the Cuban Ambassador’s new position, she would further promote the bilateral relationship.
Minister Lich said he was pleased with the bilateral relationship, laid by President Ho Chi Minh and President Fidel Castro and fostered by generations of leaders of the two Parties, States, armies and people. “Over the past 60 years of diplomatic relationship, despite profound and complex changes in the world, the affection between Vietnam and Cuba remains original, becoming a model in international relations,” he added, noting Cuba’s noble deed in giving assistance of thousands of medicine bottles and sending experienced medical experts to Vietnam to support its fight against COVID-19.
According to Minister Lich, marking the 60th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relationship, the two Defence Ministries will publish diverse books and a documentary film on the two countries’ defence relations, reviewing the affection between the two countries and armies, and educate the young generation about the special traditional and friendly relationship between the two countries and armies.
Showing her emotion with the affection of the Vietnamese side, Ambassador Lianys Torres Rivera confirmed that Vietnam is always resilient in the war, industrious and creative in national development. In particular, Vietnam is one of the safe countries during COVID-19, according to the Cuban Ambassador./.
