The Vietnam Writers’ Association has recorded numerous achievements in creating and promoting Vietnamese works and international exchanges, including the successful organization of Vietnam literature conferences and international poetry festivals.
Mr. Vo Van Thuong, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission of Popularization and Education, said above at the 10th Congress of the Vietnam Writers' Association in Hanoi on 25.
He also asked writers to continue introducing images of the Vietnamese country and people to the world through literature.
In his speech, the senior Party official called for a greater role of literary works in combating corruption and moral degradation as well as promoting national reconciliation and a healthy democratic life.
"What generations of Vietnamese writers have done make the people and Party continue to believe in the current writers as the country is entering a new phase of development. The 10th Congress is a congress to transfer the leadership of the Vietnam Writers' Association with the hope that new factors will create new energy in management and creativity, contributing to building and developing Vietnamese culture and people,” he emphasized.
The Vietnam Writers' Association said it will improve Vietnam literature conferences and international poetry festivals which are held every 5 years, translate typical works, actively participate in the awards of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and activities of the Association of Asian-African-Latin American Writers, and encourage Vietnamese writers living abroad to make further contributions to national literature.
The association of Vietnamese writers had earlier elected the 63-year-old Nguyen Quang Thieu, who is known as a poet, fiction writer, translator and literary critic, as its new chairman for the next five years.
The two Vice Chairmen are poet Tran Dang Khoa and writer Nguyen Binh Phuong.
Nguyen Quang Thieu has also been active in connecting Vietnamese writers and American authors who used to fought in Vietnam, and has won various domestic and international prizes, including the Korean Changwon KC International Literary Prize in 2018./.
