"Over the past time, under the direction of the Prime Minister, Vietnamese authorities have coordinated with Vietnamese representative missions abroad, domestic and foreign airlines to organize 299 flights, bringing home more than 80,000 Vietnamese citizens from 60 countries and territories safely. Bringing home Vietnamese citizens is done suitably with the pandemic situation in the world, in Vietnam and quarantine capacity at home,” said the spokesperson.

Due to the new strain of SARS-CoV-2 appearing and spreading rapidly in some countries around the world, on January 5, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed a document requesting the restriction of flights bringing people into Vietnam from now until the Lunar New Year Festival.

In case of real necessity, each flight bringing home Vietnamese citizens abroad must be reported and agreed by relevant ministries and agencies such as the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Ministry of Transport, and report to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision.

According to Vietnamese diplomatic missions abroad, many Vietnamese people have registered to return home from now to the Lunar New Year Festival. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is working with ministries, agencies and localities, as well as relevant agencies, to research and build plans to bring home citizens with real urgent needs, while ensuring the principle of disease prevention and fighting and quarantine capacity at home./.
