Speaking at the event, VUFO President Nguyen Phuong Nga stressed that the VUFO and the Vietnam – Cuba Friendship Association decided to present VUFO’s noble award to the Cuban Ambassador to recognize and honour her contributions to reinforcing and increasing the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba.

“During her working term in Vietnam, Ambassador Lianys Torres Rivera has always paid attention to promoting bilateral cooperation in fields such as economy, culture, health and education, as well as exchanges and cooperation between businesses, organizations and people,” said Ms Nga, adding that she had actively participated in people-to-people friendship activities in general and those hosted by the VUFO and the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association in particular.

The VUFO President confirmed that the brotherhood, friendship and mutual trust between Vietnam and Cuba is very special and rare in international relations. The cohesion of the lofty revolutionary ideals of the era, the struggle for independence, freedom and national liberation created empathy and understanding between the two peoples who are half the globe apart from each other, creating a loving relationship forged through the years of history's ups and downs. “Vietnam and Cuba always give each other great support and encouragement both mentally and materially,” she added.

She also expressed her hope that in any future position, Ambassador Lianys Torres Rivera would make continued contributions to reinforcing and developing the special solidarity, friendship and comprehensive cooperation between the Vietnamese and Cuban peoples.

Expressing her honour at receiving the insignia, Ambassador Lianys Torres Rivera stressed the solidarity between Cuba and Vietnam during the complex development of COVID-19 globally.

She said she believed that the cooperation between the two countries in general and between VUFO and the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam in particular would continue to be reinforced and developed in the upcoming time./.
