(13th Congress) - By effectively carrying out ethnic minority programs and policies, the household poverty rate in the southern province of Soc Trang was reduced to 2.67% in general and reduced by 4.11% among Khmer ethnic minority people.

The information was announced during a meeting held by the Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee and Fatherland Front on April 13 to celebrate Chol Chnam Thmay, Khmer people’s traditional New Year festival.
Talking about the outstanding socio-economic situation in 2020, and care for ethnic minority and poor people, Vice Chairperson of the Provincial People's Committee Huynh Thi Diem Ngoc said that Soc Trang is a province with a large number of ethnic minorities, of which the Khmer people account for over 30%. In recent years, Soc Trang province has paid attention to implementing the Party and State programs, projects and policies on ethnic groups, leading to synchronous investment in infrastructure, creating positive changes in all fields, and making an important contribution to the development of the Khmer ethnic minority.
According to Ms. Huynh Thi Diem Ngoc, in the past year, although there were many difficulties and challenges, especially the COVID-19 epidemic profoundly affecting people's life and production, the province’s socio-economic situation saw stable development. The people's material and spiritual life has been improved, and social security has been ensured. Political security and social safety and order were maintained.
At the meeting participants expressed their happiness at the changes in Soc Trang Province, affirming the Party and State care for the province through ethnic minority support programs and policies, which have contributed to the development of the ethnic minority's life, with better education, improved infrastructure, cultural work and health care./.
