On the occasion of the 21st anniversary of Hoi An Ancient Town being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage (December 4, 1999 – December 4, 2020), Mr. Yamada Takio, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Vietnam, officially visited Hoi An city in the central province of Quang Nam.

Previously, Ambassador Yamada Takio and a delegation of the Japan Embassy in Vietnam and leaders of Hoi An City visited Hoi An Ancient Town, and some monuments that Japan has supported to restore in Hoi An over the past time. This was also the first official visit of the Ambassador to Hoi An.
At the time of the tour, many areas in Hoi An ancient town were still flooded, this being the 11th time in 2020 that Hoi An ancient town flooded. The delegation was impressed when they witnessed the functional forces, the people of the old town and many vehicles participating in cleaning the mud, cleaning the environment, and cleaning the old town to prepare for the 21st-quarter anniversary of Hoi An recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage (December 4).

On this occasion, the parties exchanged and worked on economic and cultural cooperation projects between Japan and Vietnam and Quang Nam, Japanese language curriculum, and friendship between Quang Nam province and other localities. The Japanese Ambassador will attend the 21st anniversary of Hoi An's recognition as world cultural heritage and attend the seminar on “Preservation and promotion of heritage tourism in the context of COVID-19: Problems and solutions."
Over the past time, Hoi An city and Japan have cooperated and organized many cultural activities, contributing to strengthening and tightening the traditional friendship exchange relationship between Hoi An and Japan, especially 17 times to organize Hoi An - Japan Cultural Exchange events; and free Japanese language courses for students in Hoi An city./.
