Southern province targets to increase high quality rice area to 60,000 hectares

It aims to to increase agricultural production, competitiveness and value, as well as farmers’ income.

Accordingly, the agricultural sector has continued to disseminate information about high quality agricultural production to farmers; strengthen environmental improvement and the quality of agricultural products; and speed up the construction of agricultural production constructions such as electric pumping stations, transformer stations and canals. 

The province has also given training on advanced cultivation methods and transferred technologies to each farmer’s family, while bringing the hi-tech agricultural production area from 20,000 hectares to 60,000 hectares by 2025.

The province’s high quality rice production has been planned since 2013 on an area of over 48,000 hectares in 25 communes, aiming to produce materials for processed rice; promote advantages of competitiveness; and increase production efficiency and farmers’ income.

In 2020, Long An province's rice output is estimated at about 2.8 million tons, including more than 1.4 million tons of high quality rice./.
