The event was co-organized by the Agriculture Processing and Market Development Authority (AgroTrade), the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association and the Chinese Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh city.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, in the first 9 months of 2020, Vietnam – China export and import turnover of agricultural products reached more than 9.8 billion USD, down 8.6% from the same period last year. Most Vietnamese products shipped to China decreased, especially, vegetables and fruits shipment saw a 25.9% reduction, reaching just USD 1.4 billion.

Currently, Vietnam sees 9 kinds of fresh fruits allowed to be imported through official channels into the Chinese market, including dragon fruit, watermelon, litchi, longan, banana, mango, jackfruit, rambutan and mangosteen.

Together with completing procedures for durian, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development continues to boost the process of opening markets for the following fruits: grapefruit, passion fruit, avocado, custard apple, coconut, cardamom and pineapple. At the same time, it will sign a Protocol to open the market for sweet potato. 

For the situation of issuing codes to the Chinese market, 47 provinces have sent a written request with 1,735 codes of planting area covering more than 180,000 ha for the 9 fresh fruits, including 628 codes for the Mekong Delta./.
