The support activities will be implemented over 12 months, focusing on diverse areas of safe accommodation, livelihoods and basic needs, medical assistance, clean water and sanitation, and disaster risk reduction.

Previously, from October 20 to 23, the Vietnam Red Cross joined the post-disaster damage and needs assessment team in the provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Quang Nam and Quang Ngai to propose the necessary support plan.

Recently, Vietnam has been hit by four super typhoons that caused floods, landslides, and devastated infrastructure in the central region. The lives of more than 1.3 million people in the region are seriously affected, while nearly 300,000 houses were flooded and damaged. The Vietnam Red Cross immediately carried out action plans to promptly conduct  rescue activities for local residents.

According to President of the Vietnam Red Cross Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu, residents need urgent help for stabilizing their lives, including repairing houses, sanitizing the environment, resuming production, giving mental support and healthcare for the elderly, children, people with disabilities and with serious illness, as well as vulnerable persons. “It is also necessary to join hands with local authorities to clean up schools and supply books to teachers and pupils for promptly reopening schools,” she added.

Confirming that reconstruction after natural disasters is a significant work, she added that the Government, people, communities, businesses, organizations and individuals at home and abroad need to join hands to overcome the consequences as soon as possible, helping people in the central region promptly stabilize their lives and develop livelihoods./.
