He made the statement on January 19th during his farewell reception for Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Catherine Wong.
According to Secretary Hue, Singapore is Hanoi’s second largest investment partner, only after Japan, with very effective projects. “The two sides have also strongly cooperated in tourism, culture, building of smart city, plantation of trees and training of cadres,” he said.
He expressed his hope that the two sides would promptly control the COVID-19 pandemic, looking towards resuming economic cooperation, and confirming that the city would promote cooperation with Singapore.
Clearly stating Hanoi’s goal of promoting digital transformation, developing a strategy to build an urban government towards intelligence and digitalization, towards becoming a major center of intellectual property and environmental safety, he stressed Hanoi considered this the main growth in the coming years. In that context, the Secretary hoped that Ambassador Catherine Wong, in any post, would continue to promote the strategic partnership between Hanoi and Singapore.
Highly appreciating Vietnam’s and Hanoi’s effective prevention of COVID-19, Ambassador Catherine Wong said that its positive growth amid a series of difficulties is very impressive.
Adding that Singapore continues to be in the top group of investors in Vietnam and Hanoi in 2020, she confirmed that Singapore is optimistic and brings great trust in investment activities in Vietnam. She also expressed her hope that besides measures to protect public health, the two sides will step by step open up their economies to reconnect trade and economic activities.
She said the Singaporean Embassy is working with relevant Vietnamese agencies to devise regulations on trade and travel between the two countries in line with the current context, voicing her hope that Hanoi will support and create favourable conditions for the implementation of the rules.
Wong added that alongside traditional cooperation fields, Singapore is also paying heed to innovation and smart city, in which the two nations can collaborate in the future./.
