(13th Congress) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will attend the 26th International Conference on The Future of Asia to be organized by video conference by Japanese media firm Nikkei Inc on May 20-21, at the invitation of President and Chief Executive Officer of Nikkei Inc, Tsuyoshi Hasebe.

Initiated since 1995, the event, an international gathering where political, economic and academic leaders from the Asia-Pacific region offer their opinions frankly and freely on regional issues and the role of Asia in the world, is considered one of the most important global conferences in Asia.
Annually held, the event was first cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
With the theme “Shaping the post-COVID era:Asia’s role in the global recovery”, this year's conference will focus on discussing topics such as cooperation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; reconnection of regional economies; sustainable development, innovation and creativity in the post-COVID-19 era; and Asia's role in the global economic recovery after the pandemic.
In recent years, Vietnamese leaders have regularly attended and delivered important speeches at the conference, combined with visits to Japan, specifically Prime Minister Phan Van Khai (2004), Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Khiem (2007), Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung (2009), Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan (2010 and 2013), Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai (2011), Vice State President Nguyen Thi Doan (2012), Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam (2014), Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh (2015), Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung (2016), Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc (2017), Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh (2018) and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh (2019).
This year, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s attendance at the conference will affirm Vietnam's role and position in regional forums; Vietnam's viewpoints on major Asian issues, experiences and solutions to common challenges in the region, and efforts to control the pandemic and boost economic recovery.
In addition, the attendance will contribute to strengthening the extensive strategic partnership with Japan, promoting Vietnam-Japan cooperation in the fields of politics, economy, environment and society; attracting the attention of Japanese and international businesses by promoting Vietnam's outstanding socio-economic development achievements and new development policies./.
