The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VRCS) organized the fifth National Emulation Congress in Hanoi on November 19 to evaluate its operations during the past 5-year emulation movement (2015-2020) and map out new tasks for the next 2020-2025 period.
Speaking at the congress, Politburo member and Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilisation Truong Thi Mai encouraged VRCS to promote the nation’s fine tradition of mutual support and the strength of its great national unity to facilitate their operation, the Nhan Dan newspaper reported.
Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong, who is also Honorary President of the VRCS, sent a congratulatory letter to the congress, praising the results of its patriotic emulation movements and the contribution of its staff nationwide to humanitarian causes over the past five years.
The top leader also called on organisations, businesses and philanthropists from all walks of life to actively participate in the patriotic emulation movements launched by the VRCS to contribute to the realisation of the Party and State’s social security policy while preserving the tradition of kindness across the Vietnamese generations.
Praising the achievements of the VRCS over the past five years, Politburo member Mai also proposed it make better use of resources and improve the quality of activities and the professionalism of its participating forces, so that it can better care and support the vulnerable.
The association needs to continue promoting the renewal of its emulation movements and campaigns, while enhancing new, typical and advanced models to promote the fine tradition of benevolence and mutual support and the strength of the great national unity bloc, thus contributing to strengthening the people's confidence in the Party and the political system, Mai added.
Over the last five years, VRCS units at all levels assisted over 103 million people at a total value of over VND 20.2 trillion, 66% higher than the previous five-year period, constituting an important part of the successful implementation of the country's socio-economic development tasks in the 2015-2020 period.
According to the Nhan Dan newspaper, Chairwoman of the VRCS Nguyen Thi Xuan Thu emphasised that her association’s emulation campaigns have strongly promoted the core role of the VRCS in humanitarian activities, attracting a large number of people to participate in and contribute to the spreading of humanitarian values.
In the next five years, the VRCS will continue to promote emulation in all key activities – social security, disaster prevention and response, health care, blood donation, human organ donation and mobilising resources for humanitarian activities – alongside the themes of diversification, innovation, creativity and efficiency, Thu stated.
On the occasion, the VRCS was honoured with the Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for its active contribution to the cause of building socialism and national defence in the 2015-2019 period.
The congress also honoured outstanding individuals and collectives with excellent achievements in the VRCS’s emulation movements during the 2015-2020 period./.
