To achieve this goal, the city has approved the program "Research and development of AI applications in the city in the period 2020-2030", determining that research must be associated with AI applications in reality.
According to the Advisory Council for the Program, the city will develop mechanisms, policies and create legal corridors to promote AI training, research, development, testing and application. Accordingly, there will be a specific mechanism for innovation centers to attract social resources and investment funds in innovative startups, small and medium enterprises in the AI field; promoting an increase of 20% per year in the number of scientific works and AI patents; prioritizing the application of AI to speed up the digital transformation process. In particular, the city strives to become a center of Vietnam and the region for research, development and transfer of AI applications.
Under the program, the city implements specific projects, including digital infrastructure; building information portal solutions and AI applications; building a network of AI research and development institutes and centers at research and training establishments; and trains highly qualified human resources in AI. In particular, the city will build at least two centers for AI technology research, development and transfer on the same level as ASEAN. It is expected that the first center will be deployed in 2021.
Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Duong Anh Duc, Chairman of AI Advisory Council, said that AI is one of 9 areas where the city prioritizes the development of human resources with international qualifications and being put into the stimulus loan program to support businesses. "The city will build a team of AI human resources with sufficient quantity and quality to serve research and deployment of AI application in socio-economic life aspects," Mr. Duong Anh Duc said.
AI is no longer a technology of the future, but has actually been applied in a number of fields and has brought great results in Ho Chi Minh City.
Recently, the Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR), and the Ho Chi Minh City No. 1 Urban Railways Company signed a strategic cooperation agreement with information on FPT to build a roadmap for digital transformation in the urban railway field.
Meanwhile, the City Department of Transport has piloted the application of AI in intelligent traffic management.
According to Director of the Department of Transport of Ho Chi Minh City Tran Quang Lam, AI has great potential in the application of intelligent traffic management. AI can forecast, optimize and regulate traffic suitably.
Not only in the transport industry, AI is also used by the city’s health sector in diagnosing and treating diseases./.
