During the reception, he stressed that the signing of a cooperation deal between Hanoi and IFC during the conference “Hanoi 2020 – Investment cooperation and development” in June 2020 was evidence for IFC’s importance.
According to Secretary Hue, thanks to the conference, despite huge difficulties during COVID-19, Hanoi ensured growth of 3.98%, a figure 1.4 times the average growth of Vietnam; and the city’s budget collection increased by 6% compared to 2019, the highest ever.
The Secretary of the City Party Committee said that Hanoi had successfully organized the 17th Party Congress in October 2020, in which a strategy for sustainable capital development to 2030, with a vision to the year 2045, was planned. Emphasizing this as an important opportunity, the Secretary expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation with important partners such as IFC to soon implement the city's development strategies.
Senior Country Director for Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia of IFC, Mr. Kyle F. Kelhofer, highly appreciated Hanoi’s effective prevention of COVID-19, confirming that the drastic actions of Vietnam in general and of Hanoi in particular had created a safe environment for the people, including foreigners living and working in the city.
He added that Vietnam's stability over the past 25 years has created a firm belief for IFC to continue supporting Vietnam in many activities, with long-term payments, making Vietnam one of the 10 countries with closest cooperation with IFC. IFC hopes to strengthen cooperation with Hanoi in accordance with commitments set out in the signed cooperation deal, including development of the localities and private economic sector, and more capital mobilization.
At the meeting, representatives of IFC shared a number of opinions and suggestions for areas of cooperation in the coming time./.
