Vietnam has proven to the world that you are a great host to international events. At the end of 2017, Vietnam held the APEC Summit in Da Nang City. At the event, US President Donald Trump spoke about his vision of the US partnership in the Indo-Pacific region. Vietnam has shown that you are a reliable partner in creating peace and security in the region through the organization of the 2nd DPRK - US Summit in Hanoi in February 2019.
In 2020, Vietnam successfully assumed the position of ASEAN Chair in a particularly challenging time. We were delighted that Vietnam had been elected to the position of a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2020-2021, and since January, it was deeply involved in many important multilateral issues. The Vietnamese Government has also succeeded in controlling COVID-19.

On the economic side, thanks to the remarkable performance of the Doi Moi (renewal) reform policy and the successive high economic growth rate, Vietnam will surely become a development engine of the ASEAN region and the new factory of the world in the future.
Since implementing the Doi Moi policy in 1986, Vietnam has achieved stable economic growth through actively attracting foreign investment. “I think that Vietnam’s growth is brought about by the wise leadership of the Party and the Government of Vietnam as it has both regularly implemented open integration policies such as joining WTO in 2007, joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in 2019, the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) 2020 and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), both maintaining socio-political stability, harmoniously combining with the potential of Vietnam's population of nearly 100 million people, with 60% under the age of 30,” he said. “I believe this growth will continue in the future.”

Party General Secretary and State President Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that never has our country enjoyed such fortune, potential, status and prestige as today. “I think the current position that Vietnam has is thanks to the capacity of the country and the Vietnamese people,” he said. “Personally, I understand that the specific factors contributing to the position of Vietnam today are primarily due to the political stability of the country. Vietnam is a country enjoying peace long after having gone through fierce wars and we understand the value of peace, stability, security and safety.”
On external relations, we are determined to make friends with all countries.
In recent years, Vietnam's happiness index has continuously increased, including indicators of income, health, longevity, freedom, social support and generosity. In addition, the democratization process is also guaranteed, the society is more open and civilized while domestic and foreign political discussions are conducted with a high intellectual background.
All of these factors create the image of a prosperous Vietnam, a dynamic developing economy, a culture rich in identity. Vietnam is increasingly emerging as a middle power in the world, with a strong voice respected by its friends./.
