(13th Congress) - Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien on May 6 received Chay Navuth, Cambodian Ambassador to Vietnam, to discuss and reach consensus on measures to increase trade, industrial and energy cooperation.

During the reception, the two sides highly appreciated the strong trade relations between the two countries over the past time. Accordingly, in the period 2010-2019, the bilateral trade turnover achieved an average growth rate of about 18% per year. In 2020, the trade turnover increased by nearly 3 times compared to 2010 and especially in 2019, the Vietnam - Cambodia trade turnover reached USD5.2 billion, exceeding the target of USD5 billion for 2020, set by senior leaders of the two countries.
In the first three months of 2021, the trade turnover reached USD2.69 billion, up 103.68% over the same period in 2020.
The two sides agreed on a number of measures to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the field of trade, industry and energy, including maintaining and improving a pandemic prevention clearance model at road and river border gates; ensuring uninterrupted supply chains, especially for essential goods such as health and food; reviewing, amending, supplementing and signing new legal frameworks on trade; accelerating the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of Cambodia on connection and development of border trade infrastructure; supporting enterprises to carry out trade promotion activities, building brand names and distribution channels; Strengthen information sharing and closely coordinate in the fight against cross-border smuggling; and continuing to strengthen electricity trading relations.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien recognized that the difficulties the Cambodian Government and people are facing in the context that the COVID-19 pandemic are continuing to develop complicatedly, showing his belief that Cambodia will soon push back the pandemic to bring life back to normal and recover economic development.
In order to join hands to support and help Cambodia to prevent the COVID-19 pandemic, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien presented the Cambodian Embassy in Vietnam with 10,000 antibacterial cloth masks, and presented 3 Cambodian ministries with 10,000 antibacterial cloth masks each./.
