Nation increases support for people with disabilities

The majority of people with disabilities in Vietnam are poor, have never attended school or have no education. They are also of working age, and live in rural areas. Their main job is to assist their families in farming, forestry and fishing, with unstable work and low income.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoi, Director of the Department of Social Protection under the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs, said that Vietnam had formed a system of centers to support inclusive education development in 20 provinces and cities. It has also developed a network of teachers for children with disabilities in 63 provinces and cities. Some textbooks and materials to serve the learning of students with disabilities have been compiled. The number of students with disabilities attending school in the period 2012 - 2020 has increased about 10 times compared to the period 2000-2010.

Information from the General Department of Vocational Education under the Ministry of Labour - Invalids and Social Affairs shows that up to 282,000 people with disabilities have been supported with vocational training and job creation.

Authorities have contributed to creating jobs and supporting livelihoods for thousands of vocational trainers. In which more than 3,350 teachers have participated in vocational training for people with disabilities in hundreds of facilities, each year supporting vocational training for about 20,000 people with disabilities under the scheme on vocational training for rural workers.

Director of the Social Protection Department Nguyen Van Hoi said that in the year 2021 and the period 2021 - 2025, 90% of disabled people in difficult circumstances will receive timely social assistance, care and rehabilitation. The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs will also promote communication, and attract the attention and broad support of society on the occasion of Vietnam Day of Persons with Disabilities on April 18 and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3) by organizing exhibition fairs for people with disabilities and employment forums for people with disabilities, connecting with businesses to bring people with disabilities to work./.
