Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Thuong Tin district People’s Committee Kieu Xuan Huy said that over the past years, the local administration has exerted every effort to effectively implement the national target program on building new style rural areas despite facing many challenges and uncertainties.

According to the Hanoi Portal, after the ten-year implementation, all 28 communes in the district have met 19 criteria of new style rural areas. In addition, Thuong Tin has accomplished 9 criteria for new style rural district.

Among the achieved targets, 90.7% of the populations are enrolled in health insurance. 90% of schools meet national standards.

During the 2021-2020 period, the local authorities have spent more than VND4.4 trillion on improving socio-economic infrastructure, contributing to making positive changes in rural development.  The rate of poor households was brought down to 0.39%. Per capita income hit more than VND55 million in 2020, 4.1 times higher than that attained in 2010.

So far, Thuong Tin has had 1,745 hectares of high quality rice production, 130 hectares of fruit growing area, 146.7 hectares of bonsai and flower farming.

There have been 15 hi-tech farm models and 14 food chains which bring income of around VND145 million.

Besides, special attention has been paid to carrying out the One Commune-One Product (OCOP) program, as part of efforts to accelerate the building of new-style rural areas. The district has to date had 103 products qualified for OCOP standards.

At the ceremony, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen handed over the PM’s decision recognizing Thuong Tin as a new style rural area to the local administration.

Speaking at the ceremony, she praised the effort by the Party organization, authorities and people of Thuong Tin district as well as the support from the central level during the new-style rural area building.

Ms. Tuyen asked for more effort to maintain and improve the criteria toward advanced new-style rural areas and models in association with urban development.

In order to achieve the goal, the local authorities should widely disseminate the resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, the resolution of the city’s 17th Party Congress and ten action programs of the municipal Party Committee, especially Program 04 to create the consensus in performing the task, she suggested.

She underscored the necessity for Thuong Tin to review planning activities, while taking drastic measures to expand traffic facilities to accelerate socio-economic development.

Tuyen also requested the district to effectively realize the twin tasks of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic and boosting socio-economic development, and successfully organize the upcoming election of deputies to the 15th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for tenure of 2021-2026./.
